I have found this season’s round up of at-bat songs for the Boston Red Sox amusing. Jacoby Ellsbury is using the unofficial theme of the 2009 Boston University men’s hockey team, Let It Rock. Dustin Pedroia is using a tune featuring the official favorite artist of baseball players under 5-8, Rihanna (this is a joke between my occasional men’s softball playing husband and I, as he is also a fan of Rihanna, is a big contributor of clutch RBIs on the rare occasion he actually gets to play softball, and is under 5-8.)

Then there is Kevin Youkilis, who steps up to the plate while Biz Markie’s Just A Friend. Youkilis has now parlayed his unique at-bat music to a commercial opportunity with a Boston area car dealership mogul. Says Regan Communications:

“In the commercial spot, Herb Chambers and Kevin Youkilis try their luck singing the iconic tune at the piano only to realize that just because one happens to be a great car salesman and the other happens to be a great ball player, their success doesn’t necessarily translate into music gold. Enter Biz Markie, the Clown Prince of Hip-Hop to show them both how it’s done.”

Hey, hearing the two croon might be painful, but it is a pretty unique idea for a commercial. You can watch the entire commercial and behind the scenes footage here. Or finally – since I am no longer on the ridiculously limiting Amtrak wi-fi (“No Flash for you!”), I’ve embedded it here:

Big thanks to my friend Bethany from Regan for the heads up!
