About

I am a freelance writer who contributes to BU Today, SBNation Boston, Inside Lacrosse, College Baseball Daily and Examiner. I absolutely, positively love Twitter, and can be found tweeting all about hockey, lacrosse, football, and the like at @sportsgirlkat. To see all of my recent writing credits, please see my Writing and Game Programs pages.

I have a passion for helping others find their voice (be it through writing or social media), creating boundary-free sports fan communities and telling great stories from the world of sports.

Me, In a Nutshell

I grew up in Western New York to a football loving father and a Olympics loving mother. At age 4, I was found trying to emulate Katarina Witt skating performances in footy pajamas on my kitchen floor. From ages 9-12, I looked forward to all-school Buffalo Bills Super Bowl pep rallies the Friday before the Super Bowl and my friend Elissa’s Super Bowl Mega Parties. Like ESPN’s Chris Berman, I held out years of hope for a Buffalo Bills – San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl that would have pitted my two favorite wide receivers/special teams players of all time (Don Beebe and Steve Tasker) against my favorite quarterback of all time (Steve Young.)

I balance my freelance sports writing career with my full-time career managing communications and programs for a Dean of Students office at a large university.

A Brief Legal Note

My writing on this blog is my own; it is not representative of my full-time employer or any employee of the institution I work for. The opinions and analysis reflected on the domain “www.sportsgirlkat.com” are not shared by or representative of my employer.

In non-legal terms: there is a Kat on these pages, and there is a Kat that works full-time in another field.  The two are extremely different entities. This blog does not reflect my employer’s views. But, that being said, I am pretty careful about what I write, and often have trusted advisors read through anything I believe may be controversial.

First of all the blog looks great! I’m glad I stumbled upon it. Second, good luck in the WEEI contest! I listen to that station daily so that’s cool.

Thirdly, I didn’t know how else to contact you so I’ll just post it here. I run a site that links to other gymnastics sites called Links to Gymnastics (http://www.linkstogymnastics.com)

I found your blog when I was searching the web for gymnastics and wanted to ask you if you’d like a link to your site from Links to Gymnastics.

Obviously you cover more than Gymnastics but it’s good to see the coverage amidst all the other sports.

Either way I wish you all the best!

Thank you immensly for your blog!
I myself am a female sports blogger, and it’s a difficult road. I also wanted to thank you on your coverage on the less prominent sports. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE football as much as the next guy, but I am a student-athlete on the equestrian team at my university, and it is nice to see other sports covered. If yourself or any of your collegues would like to look at my blog I would be honored

Thanks again and keep up the good work!
